Copper Nesting Tables by Herbert Hirche for Rosenthal, Germany 1970s
Copper Nesting Tables by Herbert Hirche for Rosenthal, Germany 1970s
This rare set of two tables by Herbert Hirche is based on a 1956 design for Christian Holzäpfel and was produced in a very limited edition by Rosenthal in the 1970s.
The shiny table tops are composed of different sized copper circles and squares, which have been arranged "randomly" to form mesmerizing mosaics and sit on black metal frames.
In good condition with some signs of their age and use these nesting tables make for an ideal coffee or side ensemble.
Hirche, who has been called the "Last of the Bauhaus-ers", studied at the Bauhaus in Dessau and Berlin under Wassily Kandinsky and Mies van der Rohe and is considered one of Germany's most influential architects and designers of the 1950s and 60s.
Following the Bauhaus ethos of functionality and harmonic proportions, these tables were designed along minimalistic lines giving them timeless elegance.
