This brutalist wall light is a converted candleholder by the Danish artist Henrik Horst from the 1970s.
Consisting of oxidized and treated geometric metal shapes, this abstract and expressive wall relief is embellished by flowing tones of bronze and shades of brown.
While the candleholder sculpture itself is clearly designed and made by Henrik Horst, we believe the conversion into a wall light probably happened at a later stage. Although it can be easily reversed into the original candleholder, we believe this unique conversion actually works very well and is in keeping with the three-dimensional geometric look and feel of this piece.
The lamp is fitted with an E17 light bulb covered by a frosted glass globe and is wired with a European 2-pin plug on a 2.5m (8.2 foot) power cable.
Born in 1942 in Denmark, Horst made his depute in 1970 and featured in exhibitions in Barcelona, Utrecht, Amsterdam, Gothenburg, Copenhagen and Stockholm. His metal sculptures and wall decorations were sold to numerous Danish and international institutions. Today, his brutalist mid-century modern designs are very much en-vogue thanks to their timeless design and honesty of materials.
