Neo-Baroque Carved Giltwood Sunburst Convex Mirror, Southern Germany

This remarkable vintage sunburst convex mirror certainly ads a touch grandeur and extravagance to interior decoration!

We sourced this in southern Bavaria and it is very much in the neo-baroque style of the chapels and small churches built in the region in the early 1900s - though we suspect that the mirror may have been made at later date.

Multiple hand-cut sunbeams radiate on two Layers around a small convex mirror which is surrounded by a ring of carved petals.

While there are some signs of its age it is still in good condition with a delightful patina and a lovely gilt shine. The backside shows some stains, scuff marks and paint spots and it seems that the rays were reinforced with glue at one point.

This mirror will work well as a standalone piece on a wall or above a bed, a mantel or console table.
