This exceptionally elegant side table base effortlessly captures the agility and curios alertness of the stylized desert foxes!

Made from patinated bronze this table base is in very good condition with only slight signs of its age and use. (Please note, the glass top is not included in this offer to facilitate safe and affordable shipping).

The table base is undoubtably most akin to a "Table Lamp with Fennecs" designed by Armand-Albert Rateau between 1920 and 1925 as auctioned by Christie's (see lot numbers below) who described it with the following words:

"This deceptively simple design, faultless in its proportions, well illustrates Rateau’s distinctive skill at conceiving elegant, modern artefacts that distill echoes of ancient cultures. [...} This reference to ancient Egypt is underscored in the choice of ‘Fennecs’ or desert foxes to create the supporting bronze base."

French furniture maker and interior designer Armand-Albert Rateau (1882 -1938) became one of the most important designers of the Art Deco furniture and decor movement in France. He is best known for furnishing the apartment of French couturier Jeanne Lanvin in Paris, which  was donated by Prince Louis de Polignac to the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris in 1965. The entire apartment is on display there.
